Youths' Premieres on Culture In Difference in Ethnic Diasporas to foster Intercultural and Intergenerational Belonging
The Culture In Difference Youths project is a 20-month Erasmus+ initiative that fosters friendships and social inclusion between local and migrant youths through creative co-creation and a structured community of learning. By applying The Care Model and the principle of “do not speak about us without us,” the project focuses on youths aged 20-25 (+/-2) who are students or recent professionals in media and culture, as well as young people with Ethiopian migration backgrounds acting as cultural ambassadors. This diverse group, supported by youth educators and local diaspora members, works together to acquire validated skills in social communication, media production, and ethnography while building intergenerational bonds and a stronger sense of identity.
Project implementation begins with the formation of six local groups established across all partner countries—specifically in Rome (Italy), Bordeaux (France), Malta, Brussels (Belgium), Vienna (Austria), and Athens (Greece). These activities include eight online expert workshops and the creation of a cultural calendar and collective memory digital exhibition. These efforts lead to an intensive four-day production training in Rome, where participants from across the European partnership collaborate on ethnographic video projects featuring the traditions and lives of the Ethiopian diaspora. The project culminates in six public premiere events in each partner country, showcasing youth-led media content to stakeholders and the wider community to debunk migration myths and celebrate intercultural belonging.
