The latest EKO Youth Club meeting brought together young people for an interactive session on Youth Empowerment, Identity & Participation, facilitated by KMOP civil society organisation.
The session began with an energising game of Bingo, designed to help participants get to know one another and discover shared experiences. Each participant received a bingo card containing statements such as “has participated in more than three youth exchanges,” “speaks more than two languages,” or “has volunteered in their community.”
Participants moved around the room, speaking with one another and finding people who matched the different descriptions. The activity created a lively atmosphere, encouraged interaction between participants who had not met before, and highlighted the diverse experiences and backgrounds within the group.
The group then took part in a reflective exercise called I Am From. Rather than focusing on nationality or place of birth, participants were encouraged to think more deeply about the people, experiences, traditions, and environments that have shaped who they are.
Many shared statements inspired by memories, family traditions, favourite foods, neighbourhoods, sounds, smells, and everyday experiences. Responses included reflections such as being “from a neighbourhood full of life,” “from family dinners that bring everyone together,” or “from the smell of homemade food on a Sunday afternoon.”
The activity encouraged participants to explore identity as something rich and multifaceted, helping them recognise the many influences that contribute to their sense of belonging.
Building on these reflections, participants engaged in discussions about the needs, opportunities, and challenges they observe within their communities. They exchanged perspectives on issues affecting young people and explored how greater participation can contribute to more inclusive and supportive environments.
The conversation provided space for participants to listen to one another’s experiences, identify common concerns, and reflect on the role young people can play in creating positive change.
Through interactive group activities, participants worked together to develop ideas for actions that could strengthen inclusion, participation, and community engagement. The collaborative process encouraged creativity, teamwork, and active citizenship, while reinforcing the importance of ensuring that all voices are heard and valued.
The session highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for young people to express themselves, connect with others, and actively contribute to their communities. Participants left with new perspectives on identity, a deeper understanding of inclusion, and renewed motivation to take part in shaping positive change.
A big thank you to KMOP for facilitating such a meaningful and engaging session. We look forward to continuing these conversations and creating more spaces where young people can learn, connect, and grow together.
