EKO is happy to announce that one more amazing training course has been completed successfully. The project “Food Heritage in the Mediterranean” united 36 participants from Tunisia, Italy, Greece, Morocco, Germany and France. It was organized by the French organization “Bokra Sawa” and took place in Hammamet, Tunisia from 09 to 15 November 2025.
Aims & Objectives of the project
The training course “Food Heritage in the Mediterranean” aimed to:
-Raise awareness among young people of the significance of culinary traditions in shaping identities, history, and social practices across the Mediterranean, fostering a reflective appreciation for cultural heritage through food.
-Promote intercultural exchange through cooking and gastronomy, enabling young people from different Mediterranean countries to share and learn about each other’s food traditions, fostering mutual understanding, respect, and dialogue in a non-formal learning environment.
-Encourage values of cooperation, empathy, and solidarity by exploring food as a tool for intercultural dialogue, strengthening social cohesion and the sense of community across diverse cultural contexts.
Workshops & Activities of the project
Through this project, participants engaged in activities that deepened their understanding of Mediterranean culinary traditions and their links to history, identity, and cultural heritage. Workshops and hands-on experiences encouraged young people to explore food as a tool for intercultural dialogue, fostering a critical and reflective appreciation of diverse cultural practices. Activities focused on developing key competencies such as creativity, empathy, and effective communication, while non-formal education methods ensured a balanced approach between theory and practice. Participants were empowered to act as ambassadors of cultural exchange within their communities, promoting inclusion, mutual respect, and a shared appreciation for diversity through the lens of food heritage.
