The European Union emphasises empowering young people to combat climate change and promote sustainable policies. In line with this commitment, the “ECHOES” project (Empowering Climate Hope and Environmental Sustainability) has been launched to amplify youth voices and strengthen their role in shaping a greener future.
This initiative, which will run from March 2024 to December 2025, aims to equip youth workers, trainers, and young people in six European countries—Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands—with the tools and knowledge needed to drive climate action and influence policy.
ECHOES seeks to address pressing challenges, such as low youth participation in climate initiatives, the spread of misinformation, and the need for more focus on environmental issues in political discourse. The project aims to empower young people to actively shape sustainable policies and decision-making processes while ensuring their voices are heard at all levels.
Over 22 months, the ECHOES project will empower youth to lead climate advocacy by creating a Climate Advocacy Toolkit and training 25 youth workers to engage young people in impactful campaigns. It will reach over 500 youths through 25 workshops in six countries, providing hands-on learning about climate action, and an online campaign that will counter misinformation, targeting 100,000 individuals across Europe. The project will culminate in a Youth Climate Summit, uniting 150 young leaders and policymakers to integrate youth perspectives into the EU’s climate agenda, with final events in each country to showcase results and sustain momentum for youth-led climate action.
ECHOES is poised to leave a lasting legacy by empowering young people to lead in addressing the climate crisis and ensuring their voices shape Europe’s future. Together, we can amplify youth action and build a greener, more sustainable Europe.
