Financial literacy is crucial for fostering a healthier economy and an inclusive society, yet only 52% of adults in the EU are financially literate, according to the S&P Global FinLit Survey. The UN’s 2016 report highlights how a lack of financial literacy contributes to poverty and social exclusion, disproportionately affecting disadvantaged groups and impeding social mobility. In a context of global instability exacerbated by COVID-19 and geopolitical conflicts, young people face greater challenges in achieving financial independence. Recognizing this, the PROACTING project aims to empower young people with financial skills to combat poverty, social exclusion, and inequality, supporting their transition to independent living and preparing them to navigate financial challenges effectively.

Spanning from September 2023 to February 2025, the “PRO(F)LITERACY 2.0” project will be implemented in five European countries  Estonia, Greece, Italy, Latvia, and Portugal to promote sustainable behaviors and environmental awareness through sports.

PRO(F)LITERACY 2.0 key objectives include addressing social exclusion and poverty among young people stemming from limited financial and economic knowledge, training youth workers to improve financial literacy among young Europeans on a European scale, and fostering sustainable international networks dedicated to financial literacy. Over 18 months, various activities will take place, such as the development of a booklet, and community of practice (youth workers) in the area of financial literacy. In addition to local and virtual workshops to raise financial awareness and skills.
