Be active- be European 

Training Course 08/04/2024 – 14/04/2024 in Rezekne, Latvia

EKO is happy to announce that one more amazing training course has been completed successfully. The project “Be Active- Be European” united 50 young workers from Latvia, Spain, Lithuania, Cyprus, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Poland, and Slovakia It was organized by the Latvian organization European Association

“World-Our Home” and took place in Rezekne (Latvia) from 08 to 14 April 2024. 

 

Aims & Objectives of the project 

 

The project “Be active – Be European” is designed to empower youth workers in the mission of countering Euroscepticism and inspiring active involvement among young Europeans in the upcoming 2024 European Elections.

 

More specifically the objectives were:

  • Discussion between partners on the vital role of youth in EU civic engagement and to raise awareness about the challenges posed by Euroscepticism. Additionally, we would like to explore how the European Union Parliament works, how EU policies emerge, how significant are EU Elections, and what are the notable achievements of the EU.
  • Equipment of youth workers with the knowledge and tools to effectively prepare young citizens and first-time voters for the 2024 European Elections. 

 

Workshops & Activities of the project 

 

Through this project, participants had the opportunity to get better in some key competencies such as the 2024 EU Elections, personal, social, and learning to learn competence. During the seven days, the participants engaged in activities based on non-formal education methods including presentations,

debates, entrepreneurship education, etc. The project’s activities were getting to know each other, workshops in plenary and teams, outdoor activities, intercultural evenings, visits, reflection, and evaluation. Throughout the collaborative efforts, participants engaged in informative sessions shared experiences, and explored the positive impacts of the EU on its citizens.  The issues relevant to young people related to democracy, participation and active citizenship were discussed together. The topic of participation in the European Parliament elections and why it is important was brought up. Examples of democracy and participation projects and how young people can get involved in various programs and activities were presented. Overall, all the activities were very informative and the participants gained a lot of knowledge and motivation for the upcoming elections.
