Next Step: youth workers in climate action

Training Course 05/11/2023 – 11/11/2023 in  Felgueiras (Porto), Portugal

EKO is happy to announce that one more amazing training course has been successfully completed. The project “Next Step: youth workers in climate actionunited 30 young participants from  Italy, Portugal, Greece and Latvia. It was organized by the Portuguese organization Salta Fronteiras Associação , and took place in Felgueiras (Porto), Portugal from 05  to 11 of  November 2023.

Aims & Objectives of the project

The project aimed to gather youth workers to gain knowledge to respond to the problem of a lack of youth participation in the design and implementation of policies to combat climate change. The climate crisis is one of today’s most pressing challenges, and involving young people in finding and implementing

solutions are essential. There are several obstacles to the full participation of young people in decision making processes associated with the climate crisis.

More specifically the objectives were:

  • Promoting mechanisms for inclusive youth participation in the context of responses to the ecological and environmental crisis
  • Investing in the training of youth workers, in order for them to train others
  • Engaging and promoting specific skills in target groups
  • Support youth workers in the creation and maintenance of participation mechanisms

Workshops & Activities of the project

Through this project, participants had the opportunity to get better in some key competencies such as multilingual competence, personal, social and learning to learn competence. During  the week, they worked with a non-formal methodology. Through workshops participants became aware of the need to train technicians, organizations and the youth sector to promote active participation of young people in responses to the climate crisis and they shared the solutions and tools found. They discussed how to influence interventions and how to impact a wider number of target audiences and other stakeholders.

They were able to develop skills such as a sense of initiative, creativity, teamwork, the ability to energize, practice languages, reflection and critical thinking.
