EKO is happy to announce that one more amazing training course has been completed successfully. The project One step forward united 14 young participants from Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Spain,Poland, Portugal and the Netherlands. It was organized by the Spanish organization KUNSTANT and took place in Ribes de freser, Girona, Spain from 23 August- 29 August 2024. 

 

Aims & Objectives of the project 

 

The project aimed to equip youth workers, particularly those from rural or peripheral areas, with embodied methodologies and diverse dance practices to utilize in their local work with young people and engage their communities. The training primarily focused on Biodanza, body awareness and expression, conscious movement, active meditations, afro dances, and Salsa. Through this training participants gained practical skills and knowledge but also embarked on a profound journey of self-discovery, connection, and empowerment.

 

More specifically the objectives were:

  •  Dance as a tool to break down communication barriers and foster genuine connections, especially in culturally diverse communities.
  • Creating a space for individuals from different backgrounds to connect emotionally and express themselves authentically.
  • Boost self-awareness, self-esteem, and confidence, allowing youth workers to effectively showcase their culture and personal attributes through dance.
  • Open exchange of experiences
  • Promotes knowledge
  • Sharing and peer support to enhance inclusivity, understanding, and the development of creative and practical skills



Workshops & Activities of the project 

 

Through this project, participants had the opportunity to get better in some key competencies such as multilingual competence, personal, social and learning to learn competence. During  the week, they worked with non-formal education methodology and through dances like biodanza, afro dances, salsa participants learned how to express themselves. Other methodologies that were used are body depression, image, theatre, concious movement, active meditations, nature walks, team building games,  reflections, music circle. Participants were able to develop skills such as creativity, teamwork, the ability to energize, practice languages, reflection and definitely lots of certain skills.

The aim of the youth exchange was to bring young participants closer to nature and help them to improve their mental health. The project aimed to give the participants a full experience in the mountains of Spain, while they took time to reflect, develop themselves, enrich their lives with new adventures and open themselves to new opportunities.

More specifically the objectives were:

  • Awareness of young people about the importance of mental health disorders.
  • Teaching them to create habits
  • Raising awareness of the importance of physical health for mental health. Importance of hiking
  • Develop practices of introspection, understanding such as writing, reading, meditation, positive affirmations, visualization.
  • To show them the importance of ecology for human beings.
  • Practical and theoretical skills on emotion management, focusing on cognitive behavioral theory.

Workshops & Activities of the project 

Through this project, participants had the opportunity to get better in some key competencies such as multilingual competence, personal, social, and learning to learn competence. During the project participants took part in many non – formal education workshops and debated on topics like sustainability, mental health and personal development. They came in contact with nature, since they hiked in the mountains of Spain on natural trails. Facilitators created a safe space for everyone to open up and share their personal experiences and  their personal struggles. Also they had some creative workshops where participants brainstormed on how they can build good habits and in the end of the project they created many audiovisual and graphic content. In summary, all team members developed different skills and competencies while acquiring new knowledge.
